How to Use the Lamu Teachers Portal

A short, visual walkthrough of everything you can do on the portal — from creating your account to filing welfare claims and reporting an issue.

Step 1

Getting Started

Every teacher needs an account to report issues or file welfare claims. It takes about two minutes.

  1. Go to the Sign Up page from the home page menu.
  2. Fill in your name, username, email, and phone number, then choose a password.
  3. Click Create Account — you'll be taken straight to the Sign In page.
  4. Sign in with your username/email and password to reach your dashboard.

Tip: Forgot your password? Click "Forgot password?" on the Sign In page to receive a reset link by email.
Step 2

Reporting a Case

If you need to report a gender-based violence or workplace welfare issue, this is done confidentially from your dashboard.

  1. From the sidebar, click Report Case.
  2. Select a category, priority level, and the date of the incident.
  3. Describe what happened in the description box.
  4. Optionally attach evidence (a photo, PDF, or document) and add a witness.
  5. Click Submit Case — you'll get a case reference number to track it.

Confidentiality: Only assigned gender officers and administrators can view your case details — access is strictly role-based.
Step 3

Tracking Your Cases

Every case you submit can be followed from your dashboard until it's resolved.

  1. Click Cases in the sidebar to see a list of your submitted cases.
  2. Use the filters to search by status, priority, or category.
  3. Click View on any case to see its full details, status timeline, and any notes.
  4. You can add a follow-up note at any time from the case detail page.

Step 4

Welfare Claims

The welfare claim system provides assistance for teachers facing hardship. Reporting and claiming is a two-part process.

4.1 Register a Dependant

  1. Go to Teachers welfare → My Dependants.
  2. Click + Add Dependant and fill in their details and relationship to you.
  3. Upload a supporting document — a National ID, Birth Certificate, or Marriage Certificate depending on the relationship.

4.2 Report & Claim

  1. Go to Teachers welfare → Report & Claim.
  2. Choose the scenario type (illness, bereavement, accident, etc.) and the affected dependant.
  3. Describe what happened and attach any supporting evidence.
  4. Click Submit Request.

4.3 Track Your Claims

  1. Go to Teachers Welfare → My Claims to see every report and claim you've submitted.
  2. Each item shows its status: Submitted, Pending, Approved, Rejected, or Paid, along with the amount if granted.

Step 5

Notifications & Profile

Stay updated and keep your account details current.

  1. Click the bell icon in the top bar to see your notifications — new updates show a red count badge.
  2. Go to My Profile to update your phone number, upload a profile photo, or change your password.

Step 6

For Officers, Secretaries, Treasurers & Admins

If you review cases or welfare claims, here's a quick overview of what's available to you.

Review assigned cases, update their status, and communicate through case notes until resolved.

Review pending welfare claims, approve or reject them, record the amount granted, and upload payment proof.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can see the case or claim I submit?

Only the officer or reviewer it's assigned to, plus administrators. Access is strictly role-based and every action is logged.

Can I edit a case after submitting it?

You can't edit the original report, but you can add follow-up notes at any time from the case detail page.

How long does a welfare claim take to review?

This depends on the reviewing team's workload — you'll get a notification the moment your claim's status changes.

What file types can I upload as evidence?

PDF, JPG, PNG (and WEBP for photos), up to 5MB per file.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Click "Forgot password?" on the Sign In page and follow the emailed reset link — it expires after 30 minutes for security.
